About The Cark and District Angling Association

River Eea Priest Bridge

President: Lord Cavendish

Chairman: Mr. R. Hadwin

Vice Chairman: Mr. G. Shaw

Secretary: Mr. R. Bland

Treasurer: Mr. I. Bland

The Cark and District Angling Association was formed in January 1966 by 24 liked minded Anglers to preserve the fishing for locals on the River Eea, a lease with Holker Estates was finally agreed on June 22nd of that year. The River Eea which is a small river or brook, rises in the hills above the village of Cartmel and flows down the picturesque Cartmel valley for about 5 miles, through the village of Cark-in-Cartmel to the sea in Morecambe Bay.

The Cavendish family, who have lived at Holker Hall for many generations, have always had an interest in the Angling Club, Mr. Richard Cavendish was actively involved in setting up the Club in 1966, and became the first President. His Son, Lord Cavendish, has continued in the roll of President, he has a keen interest in the River Eea, regularly attends our AGMs, and is an active angler.

There is currently a project in operation on the River, under the control of the newly formed South Cumbria Rivers Trust. The project will investigate the apparent lack of natural Brown Trout in the River Eea and will run for 3 to 5 years. The Club will support this project in every way possible, we have an agreement with the Environment Agency until 2012 concerning stocking consents, and we have agreed to suspend our stocking policy for the time being. The hope is that the findings from this project will be of use to other angling clubs suffering similar problems on their rivers.
